During that time, we’ve responded to various emergent situations and are now closely monitoring the changing global circumstances around Covid-19. The GSMA’s approach is safety first, and we are working to ensure that MWC21 proceeds in the safest way for all participants. 

GSMA Guidelines on Health and Safety for MWC21

As always, health and safety are a paramount consideration, and we are working closely with Fira Barcelona and the Host City Parties in Spain to ensure we incorporate all guidance and provide the best level of protection possible at the event. Whilst many safety standards will be mandated; our approach is to meet and then surpass those standards where possible. Our planning principles include;

  • Collaboration: Our dialogue with key partners and exhibitors is in full force to ensure a safe build-up and operation of MWC incorporating all emerging guidance
  • Partnership: The GSMA works directly with the Spanish and Catalan governments, the Host City Parties and Fira de Barcelona to ensure a safe and healthy experience for all involved in the event. This partnership will build on the Protocol on Safety and Prevention against COVID-19 currently being implemented by Fira de Barcelona
  • Expert advice and health and safety measures: We are defining strict standards and best practice with direction from health authorities around the world including, the WHO, scientific research, health and safety experts and Spanish and Catalan health authorities

Updates on our enhanced health and safety measures and our ‘touchless’ environment will be available in the coming weeks. Some of the health & safety measures and protocols exhibitors and attendees will be obliged to follow include;

  • Social distancing and traffic flows
  • We will optimise the exhibition layout to improve flow and support social distancing through real-time data sharing and analysis
    • The venue will be set up to ensure the 1.5m distance guidelines are met
    • All spaces will be designed to ensure a crowd density of no less than 2.5m2 per person can be maintained
    • Exhibitors will be required to adhere to strict stand capacity and flow requirements as well as stand design adjustments
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Protective face masks will be mandatory
  • Hygiene
    • The environment will minimise touch, with entry, information points and registration all becoming touchless
    • Hand sanitiser will be widely available throughout the venue and required at each Exhibitor stand
    • There will be enhanced cleaning measures throughout the venue, with particular attention paid to high contact surfaces
    • Exhibitors will be obliged to conduct frequent cleaning and disinfection of their stands
    • Where the handling of products or other materials is necessary, it will be essential for items and hands to be sanitised before and after use with an approved hydro-alcoholic sanitising solution
    • Specific cleaning and sterilisation regimes will be in place for any audio-visual equipment
  • Training
    • Exhibitors must ensure that all staff and contractors have received, as a minimum, training in the health and safety guidelines and rules provided

The GSMA will abide by every step outlined in our health and safety guidelines and will enforce compliance throughout the event to ensure that exhibitors and attendees also comply.

OPPO Find X2 Neo stands out for having four rear cameras: the 48MP main camera, a 13MP telephoto lens, an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP black and white camera. The main camera integrates the Sony IMX586 sensor with OIS, and its image effect is improved thanks to a new ISP image algorithm. The 13MP telephoto lens achieves a 5x hybrid optical zoom when switching with the main camera and wide-angle lens zoom. In addition, it supports ultra clear night mode IA, achieving high-quality night photos in an easier way. As for the front cameras, OPPO Find X2 Neo features a 32MP camera that recognizes skin color and light condition when taking a selfie and Beautify 2.0 mode customizes it to capture the best image.

Companies collaborate to make video analytics solutions more accessible in order to drive better business outcomes

Sony Semiconductor Solutions (Sony) and Microsoft Corp. (Microsoft) today announced they are partnering to create solutions that make AI-powered smart cameras and video analytics easier to access and deploy for their mutual customers.

As a result of the partnership, the companies will embed Microsoft Azure AI capabilities on Sony’s intelligent vision sensor IMX500, which extracts useful information out of images in smart cameras and other devices. Sony will also create a smart camera managed app powered by Azure IoT and Cognitive AIServices that complements the IMX500 sensor and expands the range and capability of video analytics opportunities for enterprise customers. The combination of these two solutions will bring together Sony’s cutting-edge imaging and sensing technologies, including the unique functionality of high-speed edge AI proAIcessing, with Microsoft’s cloud expertise and AI platform to uncover new video analytics opportunities for customers and partners across a variety of industries.

Video analytics has emerged as a way for enterprise customers across industries to uncover new revenue opportunities, streamline operations and solve challenges. For example, retailers can use smart cameras to detect when to refill products on a shelf or to better understand the optimal number of available open checkout counters according to the queue length. Additionally, a manufacturer might use a smart camera to identify hazards on its manufacturing floor in real time before injuries occur. Traditionally, however, such applications — which rely on gathering data distributed among many smart cameras across different sites like stores, warehouses and distribution centers — struggle to optimize the allocation of compute resources, resulting in cost or power consumption increases.

To address these challenges, Sony and Microsoft will partner to simplify access to computer vision solutions by embedding Azure AI technology from Microsoft into Sony’s intelligent vision sensor IMX500 as well as enabling partners to embed their own AI models. This integration will result in smarter, more advanced cameras for use in enterprise scenarios as well as a more efficient allocation of resources between the edge and the cloud to drive cost and power consumption efficiencies.

Sony’s smart camera managed app powered by Azure is targeted toward independent software vendors (ISVs) specializing in computer vision and video analytics solutions, as well as smart camera original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) aspiring to add value to their hardware offerings. The app will complement the IMX500 sensor and will serve as the foundation on which ISVs and OEMs can train AI models to create their own customer- and industry-specific video analytics and computer vision solutions that address enterprise customer demands. The app will simplify key workflows and take reasonable security measures designed to protect data privacy and security, allowing ISVs to spend less time on routine, low-value integration and provisioning work and more time on creating unique solutions to meet customers’ demands.

It will also enable enterprise customers to more easily find, train and deploy AI models for video analytics scenarios.

As part of the partnership, Microsoft and Sony will also work together to facilitate hands-on co-innovation with partners and enterprise customers in the areas of computer vision and video analytics as part of Microsoft’s AI & IoT Insider Labs program. Microsoft’s AI & IoT Insider Labs offer access and facilities to build, develop, prototype and test customer solutions, working in partnership with Microsoft experts and other solution providers like Sony. The companies will begin working with select customers within these co-innovation centers later this year.

Enabling High-Speed Edge AI Processing and Contributing to Building of Optimal Systems Linked with the Cloud

Sony Corporation today announced the upcoming release of two models of intelligent vision sensors, the first image sensors in the world to be equipped with AI processing functionality*1. Including AI processing functionality on the image sensor itself enables high-speed edge AI processing and extraction of only the necessary data, which, when using cloud services, reduces data transmission latency, addresses privacy concerns, and reduces power consumption and communication costs.

These products expand the opportunities to develop AI-equipped cameras, enabling a diverse range of applications in the retail and industrial equipment industries and contributing to building optimal systems that link with the cloud.

The spread of IoT has resulted in all types of devices being connected to the cloud, making commonplace the use of information processing systems where information obtained from such devices is processed via AI on the cloud. On the other hand, the increasing volume of information handled in the cloud poses various problems: increased data transmission latency hindering real-time information processing; security concerns from users associated with storing personally identifiable data in the cloud; and other issues such as the increased power consumption and communication costs cloud services entail.

The new sensor products feature a stacked configuration consisting of a pixel chip and logic chip. They are the world’s first image sensor to be equipped with AI image analysis and processing functionality on the logic chip. The signal acquired by the pixel chip is processed via AI on the sensor, eliminating the need for high-performance processors or external memory, enabling the development of edge AI systems. The sensor outputs metadata (semantic information belonging to image data) instead of image information, making for reduced data volume and addressing privacy concerns. Moreover, the AI capability makes it possible to deliver diverse functionality for versatile applications, such as real-time object tracking with high-speed AI processing. Main Features

■ World’s first image sensor equipped with AI processing functionality

The pixel chip is back-illuminated and has approximately 12.3 effective megapixels for capturing information across a wide angle of view. In addition to the conventional image sensor operation circuit, the logic chip is equipped with Sony’s original DSP (Digital Signal Processor) dedicated to AI signal processing, and memory for the AI model. This configuration eliminates the need for high-performance processors or external memory, making it ideal for edge AI systems.

■ Metadata output

Signals acquired by the pixel chip are run through an ISP (Image Signal Processor) and AI processing is done in the process stage on the logic chip, and the extracted information is output as metadata, reducing the amount of data handled. Ensuring that image information is not output helps to reduce security risks and address privacy concerns. In addition to the image recorded by the conventional image sensor, users can select the data output format according to their needs and uses, including ISP format output images (YUV/RGB) and ROI (Region of Interest) specific area extract images.

■ High-speed AI processing

When a video is recorded using a conventional image sensor, it is necessary to send data for each individual output image frame for AI processing, resulting in increased data transmission and making it difficult to deliver real-time performance. The new sensor products from Sony perform ISP processing and high-speed AI processing (3.1 milliseconds processing for MobileNet V1*2) on the logic chip, completing the entire process in a single video frame. This design makes it possible to deliver high-precision, real-time tracking of objects while recording video.

■ Selectable AI model

Users can write the AI models of their choice to the embedded memory and can rewrite and update it according to its requirements or the conditions of the location where the system is being used. For example, when multiple cameras employing this product are installed in a retail location, a single type of camera can be used with versatility across different locations, circumstances, times, or purposes. When installed at the entrance to the facility it can be used to count the number of visitors entering the facility; when installed on the shelf of a store it can be used to detect stock shortages; when on the ceiling it can be used for heat mapping store visitors (detecting locations where many people gather), and the like. Furthermore, the AI model in a given camera can be rewritten from one used to detect heat maps to one for identifying consumer behavior, and so on.
